Position Summary: The Operations Center Shift Supervisor is responsible for supervising one of four shifts to ensure the successful operation of the customer service-based University Operations Center. The Center provides 24-hour monitoring, response, notification and dispatch services to the University. The Operations Center Supervisor exercises oversight of University Operations Services personnel and represents Campus Services during routine and critical events during the off-shifts (second and third shifts and weekends).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise Operations Center activities and Union Operators and provide supervisory oversight of building operators, chilled water plant operators and fire mechanics during off-shifts. Ensure the efficient and smooth operation of the Energy Management System, standard trouble call monitoring and dispatch.
Direct and prioritize proper response to all critical alarms and accounts on the UL listed University Fire Alarm monitoring systems including Fire alarms, Trouble alarms, Supervisor and gas alarms. Ensure proper notification of all first responders.
Responsible for all off hours emergency notifications utilizing emergency response tools such as the University notification system, WEB EOC, and FINS.
Direct and prioritize proper response to all customer trouble calls, alarms and emergency notifications.
Maintain and update general, building and fire alarm reporting system emergency procedure databases.
Interface with Faculty and University representatives and local emergency response agencies, including Cambridge Fire Department, Boston Fire Department and Harvard University Police Department.
Direct the call-in of critical response personnel utilizing the current overtime list and direct the call-in of designated contractors and other external responding agents.
Aid the Operations Center Manager in the management of wireless communication systems, including alphanumeric pagers and two-way radios. Interface with contractors to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of those communications services.
Perform special projects as directed.
Special Requirements: This is one of five positions that provide continuous supervision of the University Operations Center. The incumbent of each of these positions is required to work paid overtime as needed to ensure full supervisory coverage of each shift.

Five to seven years experience in a supervisory position in physical plant maintenance or operations environment. Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems for buildings and utilities distribution systems. Ability to oversee the University Fire systems.
Technology Skills Required: Licensed in a Massachusetts trade, or equivalent certification and experience. Strong computer skills on PC and network-based systems, including word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and communications applications. Working knowledge of building automation systems.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in routine and critical situations; to function effectively during stressful periods or events. Excellent customer service and written and oral communications skills.
