The College of Engineering at Michigan State University invites applications for multiple tenure-system faculty positions in the area of autonomous and connected systems. These positions are part of a major MSU initiative, CANVAS (Connected and Autonomous Networked-Vehicles for Active Safety), which focuses on conducting advanced research in the area of autonomous and connected vehicles. As the nation’s pioneer “land-grant” university and the largest academic institution in the state of Michigan, MSU has a long tradition of partnering with public and private enterprises in automation and major companies in the automotive industry. The CANVAS initiative at MSU aims at creating a close partnership between MSU and the automotive industry to enable advanced technologies and provide educational and student engagement opportunities in support of the most transformational period in mobility.
The successful candidates will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of faculty, graduate and undergraduate students working on broad engineering and science problem areas. These areas include:
Deep learning, machine learning and artificial intelligence for autonomous systems
Statistical signal and information processing for stochastic robotics
Multi-modal sensing and sensor fusion for robotics and autonomous systems
Distributed control and optimization for connected autonomous systems
Wireless communications and distributed networking for autonomous connected systems
The open positions will be filled at the levels of Professor, Associate Professor, and/or Assistant Professor depending on the qualifications and record of the successful candidates. The candidates are expected to establish a sustainable research program, make significant scholarly contributions to their discipline, be an effective teacher and mentor of both undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in institutional and professional service. Each faculty position will be an appointment in one of the following College of Engineering departments: Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), and the newly formed Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering (CMSE). One or more of these positions might be joint appointments in two departments within the College of Engineering.

Doctorate - Closely related field
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in a closely related field, with demonstrated evidence of research accomplishments, teaching skills, and ability to work effectively with other researchers within the Department and colleagues on campus. Appointments will start in August 2018.
