The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, is inviting applications for tenure-track and tenured positions at all professorial levels (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor.) Excellent candidates in all areas will be considered but areas of particular interest include: (1) Communications, signal processing, and networking, with a focus on wireless communications, software-defined networking, network optimization, signal processing, information theory, coding theory, and data analytics. (2) Fundamental and applied photonics, including quantum phenomena, energy harvesting and conversion technologies, and integrated optical systems for applications such as wearable devices. (3) Nanoelectronics, including emergent approaches to post-CMOS technology, 2D electronic materials and devices, spintronic, magnetic and multiferroic devices, and non-traditional circuits and architectures. (4) Energy systems, smart grids and power electronics. Applicants are requested to clearly indicate in their cover letter which of the areas above that they are applying in response to. Applicants with multidisciplinary expertise, spanning two or more of these areas, are also encouraged, and should similarly indicate their areas of interest. Successful candidates are expected to establish a strong research program, demonstrate commitment to collaboration with the research groups in the Department, and teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate level, while promoting a climate that values diversity in all its forms. We are particularly looking for candidates who can operate effectively in a diverse community of students and faculty, and share our vision of helping all constituents reach their full potential. The Department of Electrical Engineering recently moved to a new green building with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and academic spaces designed to support collaboration among faculty and student groups within the department, across the university, and with other institutions. The Department of Electrical Engineering has vibrant research programs in electronics, optics and photonics, communications, networking, signal processing and energy systems. Particular areas of excellence include 2D materials and devices, nanoelectronic and nanophotonic materials and devices, metamaterials and structured light, Terahertz electronics and communications, wireless communications in extreme environments (underwater, underground, intra-body), cognitive radio and dynamic spectrum access, Internet of Things, big data and machine learning, smart grids and power electronics. Interdisciplinary work is strongly supported and encouraged. Applicants must have a doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field. Ph.D. must be completed by start of appointment.
