The Information Services Department is currently searching for a Senior Network Engineer to join their team. This is a regular, full-time, exempt position, and is eligible for benefits.
Reporting to the Manager of Networking & Telecommunications, works as part of the Network & Telecommunications Team to architect, install, configure, maintain and monitor the Institution's local and wide area networks and telecommunications infrastructure.
Works with the Network team of the IS Department to provide robust and reliable internal wired and wireless network services and external Internet connections.
Architects and designs LAN and WAN services to serve Institutional business objectives.
Clearly documents existing and future state proposals, both in-depth and at an executive level. Explains the business case for complicated technical endeavors to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Provides networking advice and assistance to researchers and staff.
Installs, configures and manages network switches and routers. May also assist in the installation of copper and fiber optic cables as needed.
Manages the Institution's IPAM and NAC infrastructure.
Monitors network health and performance and takes corrective action as necessary. Maintains associated software and databases as needed. Troubleshoots and diagnoses both LAN and WAN problems.
Works with the IS Security Team to control network access. Develops and enforces policies and procedures to ensure secure and effective use of network resources.
Negotiates and executes equipment purchases in accordance with federal regulatory requirements and Institutional procurement guidelines.
Negotiates and manages vendor services and other external partner relationships as required to ensure timely, high-quality delivery of project deliverables and operational objectives.
Duties will require work outside of normal business hours to remedy problems and occasionally implement changes to the network.
Performs other duties as required and assigned.

DESIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree or above in a relevant field plus at least ten years of relevant experience working in a complex managed network environment.
Extensive experience with fiber optic, copper, and wireless communications.
Cisco networking expertise is required. Juniper experience is desirable.
Strong troubleshooting skills and a thorough knowledge of modern networking technologies and protocols; including BGP, OSPF, RSTP, LACP, IPsec, 802.1Q, 802.1X, DNS, DHCP, Radius, and SNMP. IPv6 experience desirable.
Experience with virtual networking technologies such as VMware's NSX is desirable.
Experience with F5 BIG-IP application delivery services or equivalent is desirable.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to lifting 25-50lbs; and carrying up to 25-50lbs independently. Visual requirements include the ability to distinguish basic colors and near vision. This position is mostly sedentary, other physical requirements are pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, climbing ladders/stools, repetitive motion as well as working with and around others as well as alone. Hearing and talking are other occupation requirements. Physical duties are subject to change.
