The AVP, Public Affairs is responsible for implementing efforts to advance the wireless industry’s advocacy goals through effective media relations, influencer relations and social media engagement. The AVP, Public Affairs plays a critical role in partnering with the association’s federal, state and regulatory affairs teams to devise and execute multi-disciplinary communications strategies in support of the association’s key objectives and reports to the SVP, Communications. The position responds to the needs of member Public Relations staff, and oversees the preparation and distribution of media material. The position coordinates and executes the Association’s traditional and social media relations efforts and assists in the development of appropriate messaging.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):
Helps to develop and implement multi-disciplinary public relations campaigns to reach, inform and motivate critical audiences. Proactively shapes media narratives pertaining to our industry and association priorities. Responds to media inquiries on various wireless issues and promotes CTIA, the wireless industry and the CEO’s profile. Supervises the writing of and distribution of press material. Responsible for media contacts and building strong relationships with key media members. Supervises the development and distribution of material for social media channels in partnership with the Director, Social Media. Assists in managing advocacy campaigns. Creates and implements industry image-enhancing campaigns. Manages flow of communication to member companies and other stakeholders. Supports member company PR/communications teams. Responsible for CEO public appearances and supports senior executives’ presentations and speeches. Oversees internal daily industry clips and external Mobile Minute clips. Responsible for day-to-day management of public affairs team.
Supervisory responsibilities: The AVP, Public Affairs supervises the 5-person Public Affairs Department.

Knowledge: Must have thorough understanding of multi-disciplinary integrated communications and advocacy techniques including. Expertise in media relations, and knowledge of media personnel. Understanding of how to use social media and other communications channgels for advocacy and marketing communications. Must have ability to understand complex issues and explain those issues to the a variety of audiences, including the media. Well developed organizational skills and ability to supervise the work of others on tight time schedules is required.
Computer Skills: Must have experience with word processing and other computer skills.
Education and/or experience: Must have minimum ten years experience in responsible public affairs and related positions. Previous experience and familiarity with telecommunications and//or tech policy issues. Four year college degree required; graduate degree preferred.
Language Skills: Detail-oriented with knowledge of grammar and punctuation. Proficiency in proofreading skills and strong communications skills are required.
