The Journeyman Meter Technician performs the operation, maintenance, installation, removal and testing of polyphase meters, AMI metering equipment, instrument transformers, wireless communications, wiring, conduits, boxes and metering devices. Will respond to members inquiries in regards to high bill complaints, irregular voltages and meter specifications such as time of use, demand metering and load control. This position works with the members of the Technical Services section, other departments and assists other classifications as directed within the scope of their qualifications.
Operates and maintains single and polyphase meters, metering equipment and devices to include installations, testing, calibrating and repairs.
Installs and wires meter bases and instrument transformers.
Installs and maintains AMI equipment and meter communication systems and equipment such as cell modems and wireless communication devices.
Accurately enter records associated with meters, instrument transformers and other billing data.
Trouble-shoot and repair MDM command center and other various type of equipment.
Maintains ongoing field test program for accuracy and integrity of metering installations.
Performs inspection and monitoring of Renewables to include residential and commercial photovoltaic and solar water interconnection tasks.
Assists with the training and development of Meter Technician apprentices and perform Meter Tester duties as needed
Recommends new technologies, equipment and devices to supervisor for budgetary purposes.
Updates and maintains the cooperative’s service entrance specifications.
Performs other duties as required and/or assigned.
A high school diploma or equivalent with the completion of a formal Journeyman Apprenticeship Program or a minimum of 5 year’s work experience as a Meter Technician or in an acceptable technical field.
Valid Driver’s License and the ability to acquire a DOT Medical Card
Must be able to read, understand and draw electrical schematics (one-line and three-line diagrams).
Experience with various hand-held programmers and readers.
Experience with AMI systems and 3-phase metering installation testing software associated with electronic kW/kWh meter, volt, amp and time-of-use meters.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and work overtime hours as needed, including on-call duty.
Experience in an Electric Cooperative with meter technology

This job primarily operates in the field and/or construction sites; will frequently be in close proximity to metering voltages up to 600 volts. This role routinely uses standard electrical equipment and tools. This position includes exposure to environmental conditions (hot, cold, and inclement weather), electrical meters, fumes or airborne particles, running equipment, and loud noises. Lifting is frequently required, must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
