The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is one of the largest and most complex departments on campus. The R&D Engineer 1 will provide design engineering technical support in the development of advanced microwave and millimeter-wave circuits for communications applications. The incumbent will apply advanced circuit design software tools to layout and simulate performance of integrated circuits, and make appropriate design tradeoffs in order to meet system objectives. The incumbent will collaborate in the collection and analysis of experimental results of fabricated integrated circuits. The incumbent will document procedures followed and design flow, including tradeoffs and final performance.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Knowledge of engineering principles and methods to perform entry-level professional engineering functions.
Demonstrated knowledge of the fundamental concepts of the field.
Demonstrated knowledge of power amplifier design principles.
Demonstrated knowledge of microwave and millimeter wave circuit concepts.
Familiarity with 4G and 5G wireless communication system operation and requirements.
Proven rated knowledge of circuit simulation software including Cadence, ADS and Matlab.
Excellent analytical skills, and strong skills in attention to detail. Analytical and judgment skills to conduct analyses and develop appropriate recommendations.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, researchers, faculty and UCSD students. Ability to work in a collaborative manner.
