What you’ll be doing...
Verizon is looking for a Counsel to support Verizon’s Global Network & Technology organization, which is responsible for creating and operating the world’s leading wireless and fiber networks. The Counsel position is responsible for performing legal work on a diverse range of projects vital to the success of the Wireless and Wireline Engineering and Operations teams in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. This includes enabling the deployment and launch of 5G technology and maintaining the superior performance of Verizon’s networks. The position requires strong analytical skills and creativity.
Communicate effectively and coordinate closely with multiple internal stakeholders to ensure concerted activity in support of Verizon network strategy.
Perform review and analysis of wireless communications agreements, including site lease agreements, license agreements, collocation agreements, ground leases, conditions of approval, easements, right of way agreements, and right of entry agreements for wireless facilities.
Participate in regular meetings with municipal officials to negotiate ordinances, master license agreements, and franchise agreements and address implementation issues related thereto and resolve disputes.
Partner with state government affairs to review and provide analysis of proposed ordinances impacting wireline and wireless facilities.
Develop expertise in relevant federal, state and local laws to assist the business in meeting its objectives, and identify opportunities to advocate for changes in laws and local ordinances where needed.
Perform research and analysis of wireline-related disputes, including property damage claims.
Continuous process improvement to streamline internal and external processes and increase effectiveness.
Provide assistance to the wireline and wireless network teams to identify and resolve legal issues and minimize risk to the business.
Support strategic projects and any other tasks or responsibilities.
Support network teams’ efforts to comply with all applicable laws, regulations and guidelines.
Resolve escalations and disputes involving wireless and wireline network operations, wireline engineering and wireless siting.
Support litigation matters such as zoning challenges and trespass claims, and work with Risk Management to research and resolve insured litigation matters.
This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
JD degree and six or more years of relevant attorney work experience.
Bar membership in good standing and needed licenses.
Recent, relevant and proven business experience in a similar work environment (e.g. law firm or corporate legal department) or industry/field (i.e. communications, technology business).
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), G Suite and Internet-based research.
Willingness to travel up to 25%.
